Sample Management

Leverage Sample Management to streamline job creation for fields that need to be sampled and request fertilizer recommendations to be generated. This tool is available at the grower and farm level and gives the user the ability to filter fields based on the last sample event, and the method for the event. Once fields have been identified, create work order jobs, print bag labels, and configure the fertilizer recommendation using pre-existing templates.

Accessing the Tool and Filtering Fields

  1. At the grower or farm level, select the Tools dropdown and select "Sample Mgmt"
  2. With the modal open, every field for the grower is presented with information for the most recent sample event
    1. By default, the "Show Fields With No Data" filter option is selected
    2. Fields without sample events are displayed with the Sample Date "N/A"
    3. Fields with multiple sample events can be expanded to view sample events that are older than the most recent event using the carrot on the left
  3. If the tool is accessed at the grower level, the Farm dropdown can be used to view fields for individual farms
  4. By default, all sampling methods are selected to be shown within the tool [1]
    1. Use the dropdown to de-select sample methods you would like to exclude
    2. Alternatively, click "Clear Selected" [2] to remove all events with any sample method
      1. You can use this to quickly clear all methods, then re-select only those you wish to see
  5. The Sample Date filter [3] can be used to filter to fields with events within a given date range, alternatively filter fields sampled before or after a given date
    1. Absolute Date Filter: Use this filter to define a date range to display fields with events within the defined date range
    2. Relative Date Filter: Use this filter to select before or after date
      1. Before Date: Filters to fields with sample events only before the defined date
        1. Example: I want to see fields that have not been sampled since April of 2021. In this case, use Before Date and select 2021-04-01
      2. After Date: Filters to fields with sample events only after the defined date
    3. The Show Fields With No Data will not be influenced by applied filters
  6. Once you have filtered to the desired fields, select them on the left or you can select all of them using the checkbox above the individual field rows [4]
  7. Once fields have been selected, the Print Labels [5], Create Jobs [6], and Save Selections [7] options become active
  8. The Exclude From Fertility option [8] is available within this tool
    1. Checking this box and clicking Save Selections [7] will exclude that specific sample event when creating recommendations within the Fertility module for the field
    2. This option exists on a per field sample basis, it has been exposed within this tool to give users an avenue to exclude events in a more manageable way
    3. Example for using this: If you provide in season nitrogen sampling to your customers, you may want to store the data within FieldAlytics for record purposes. However, you may not want to use these when creating your phosphorus and potassium recommendations. Using the filters to identify those events and selecting the field(s) allows you to quickly exclude these.

Recommendation Scheduling and Generation

  1. Once fields have been selected, the Request Rx [1] tab will be made available at the top of the modal
  2. Navigating to this tab will present a dropdown to select a template [2], and another to set the desired interpolation method [3]
    1. Templates must be created and saved prior to configuring the recommendation in this tool
      1. See related article Fertility Analysis: Soil Fertility for creating and saving templates
    2. Product, minimum rate, maximum rate, switch rate and other product related inputs will be used from the defined template
  3. All of the user input equation variables are presented for each field/element combination
  4. The static value for each user input can be modified, alternatively the dropdown (defaulted to "Flat") can be changed to "Zone" to select a management zone to replace the static value [4]
    1. If a user input is configured within the equation to allow "Equation Input Override", this option will be available for the user input within this modal as a third option
    2. As mentioned above, the product related inputs are being used as defined within the template
  5. Once all of the user inputs have been defined, the "Run Rx" [5] and "Schedule Rx" [6] buttons become available
    1. Run Rx: Using this option will present the user with a modal to enter the desired name of the recommendation(s) and the option to select additional emails for notification
      1. Submitting this once it is filled out will trigger the recommendations to run immediately and deliver a notification upon creation
    2. Schedule Rx: Selecting this option will also present the user with a form to define the recommendation name and define additional emails
      1. Submitting using Schedule Rx will set the recommendation to run once the soil test results are received from the lab
      2. Functions similarly to the Automatic Prescription Generation process in the related article
      3. Note: This option could be used in conjunction with creating jobs. The user can first identify fields to be sampled on the management tab, then create jobs. They could then navigate to the Request Rx tab and define how they would like the recommendation to be created once sampling is complete and the test results are available.

Creating Jobs

Once fields have been selected within Sample Management, clicking "Create Jobs" will launch the job wizard and load with the selected fields chosen. From here, the user can define the sampling activity just like you would adding jobs within the Work Order module. The only difference here is the added convenience of being able to define the fields needing to be sampled before getting into the job wizard.
