Layers Task Bar and Floating Tools

The Layers Task bar contains several handy data layers and features. Find the Layers task bar near the upper right corner of any tab in the system that presents the map screen. See functionality explanations below.

Background

Background allows for the selection between the Google map types. Additionally, the "Counties" map layer can be turned on and off from the  same menu.
  • Google Hybrid: This map option displays Google feature labeling (features like town and road names) on top of Google satellite imagery.
  • Google Satellite: This map option displays Google Satellite imagery only.
  • Google Roads: This map option displays a simplified map designed to make roads more easily seen.
  • Google Terrain: This map option displays a topographical map version.
  • Counties: When selected, this map layer displays county boundary lines over top of any selected Google map type.

Layers Menu Options

Click on the Layers option to access and select desired map layers.

  • Field Background: Selecting this option causes all fields that the account currently logged into the system has access to, to fill in with a dark gray. This feature makes it easier to see neighboring fields when doing things like drawing new field boundaries, or correcting existing boundaries to eliminate overlap.
  • Field Labels: This toggles field labels (Field Name) on and off. For this option, the system defaults to On
  • CANSIS DSS: This option displays CANSIS DSS data as a Map overlay for Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
  • Common Land Units: This option displays the CLU boundary layer. CLU boundaries can be used to quickly add boundaries in the system.
  • Assets: Displays location (if available) of assets set up in the system.
  • Assigned Crops: This layer displays the Assigned Crops with colors assigned within Fertility Admin. Map legend can be filtered by year and crop. Only available at the Grower, Farm and Field levels.
  • CropScape: Displays CropScape historical Data layers. Click the "Show" check box, then select the desired data layer.
  • Field Attributes: This menu contains "Show" and "Show labels" options, and "Points" and "Lines" filters. These options default to on, and provide field attribute and attribute label overlays.
  • FieldWatch ®: This data layer provides advisory information provided by FieldWatch and DriftWatch in the Main and Operations tabs as well as during work order creation.
  • SSURGO Data: This option displays SSURGO soil type map overlay. Additionally, there's a "Create Zones" option, that would create SSURGO management zones in whatever field level profile that is currently being viewed.
  • Weather: Displays Current weather layer options . Click the "Show" check box then select desired weather layer to display.
  • Work Order: Displays markers to indicate fields with currently scheduled work orders.
  • My Layers: The My Layers utility allows for various data layers to be stored and then turned into semi-transparent overlays so multiple data layers may be compared.

Search

The Search tool may be used to get the Map to pan into any area defined. There are two search types:

  • Address or Lat/Long Please Note: Inputting partial addresses (e.g. State College, PA), as well as points of interest (e.g. Pyramids of Giza) will also work.
  • TRS (Township, Range, Section)

Full Extent

When selected, this option causes the Map to zoom out as far as it must to encompass all boundary mapped areas available to the username logged in.

Floating Tools

Zoom In and Zoom Out: The new zoom in and zoom out buttons function as before with a new look. Use these to zoom the map in and out, or use the scroll wheel on mouse.
Full Screen Button: Clicking this button will cause the map to enlarge and occupy the entire screen. Push escape key (Esc) or floating collapse button  to undo.
Measure Tool:Click the tool, then click anywhere on the map to set first point. Click again elsewhere on the map to set the second point, and the system will calculate the distance. Continue clicking to calculate area. Click measure tool again when finished.
