Management Zones

Management Zones can be used to:

  • Keep track of specific treatment areas of the field
  • To add different Yield Goal inputs to different areas of the field within a Fertility tab VRA generation.
  • Create Flat-rate controller files for chemical, fertilizer, irrigation or seeding applications
  • Use in conjunction with data sets for dynamic data analysis.
  • Use to configure variable inputs for Adapt-N recommendations.

Please Note: This Document goes over the initial creation of a Management Zone layer. See the below links for help in the adding/editing polygons, adding/editing Data Columns or exporting of Management Zone.

Drawing Management Zones

1. Navigate to the field within the profile tree and right-click over the field boundary area within Map.

2. Right-click menu appears. Select "Auto-Create Zones.."

3. The "Add Management Zone" window appears .(Pictured below) Name the management zone.

4. Click "Submit".

5. The system will create a zone layer, with one zone.

6. For more help on the options available when editing management zones, see following help topic : https://help.fieldalytics.com/article/95-management-zone-options

Creating Zones From Data Sets
Management Zones can be created from the list of interpolated field layers below:
  • As-Applied Product Interpolated Map (Need to Click Interpolated View)
  • As-Planted Product Interpolated Map (Need to Click Interpolated View)
  • Yield Interpolated Map View (Defaults to Interpolated View)
  • Field Sample Nutrient Interpolated Map (Defaults to Interpolated View)
  • Aerial Imagery (Defaults to Interpolated View)
  • Veris (Defaults to Interpolated View)
  • Em (Defaults to Interpolated View)
  • Elevation data (Defaults to Interpolated View)

Please Note: An Interpolated map is required for the "Create Zones" button to available. The "Create Zones" button will appear in the the histogram/legend of the interpolated layer.

1. Navigate to data set from the Main profile tree.
2. Select the desired layer, if not automatically defaulted to interpolated view, click the "Interpolated" button found in the right gray pane.
3. A histogram/legend will show up in the bottom right corner of the map with a Create zones button, click the "Create Zones". Please Note: The Yield layer "Create Zones" can be found in the right gray pane "Tools" option drop down menu.

4. The system will open a black "Zones" edit box. (See Image below)

5. Input number of zones to be created within the "# of Zones" [1] drop-down menu.

6. The Zone editor box will update to contain Min and Max range cells for the number of Zones. If Manually Inputting the desired value ranges select "Manual" [2], select "Auto"[2] if you want the value ranges to be create automatically based on the data layer values.

Please Note: leaving "Auto" on, will cause these values to change after system calculates available data against the number of zones. Changing to "Manual" will leave the user input values true and unchanged after analysis.

7. Select amount of "Smooth Amount" [3] desired.

Please Note: Smoothing refers to the interpolation the system performs to mitigate harsh or pixelated data set values to "smooth" transitions between zones.

8. Input a "Min Acres" [4], this will set minimum size a polygon needs to be upon generating.

7. Click "Run Analysis" [5].

8. The system will process and update the Map to represent the projected zones.

9. Click "Save Zones" [7] when satisfied.

Creating Management Zones Spread Maps

Management zone layers may be used to create spread maps that have several flat-rate areas for seeding, irrigation or fertilizer/chemical controller files. Follow the steps below to add a data column(s):

1. Open the desired saved Management Zone or Create a new Management Zone
2. In the black box in the top right corner of the map, click the "Edit" button on a saved Management Zone or the "Add Data Column" button on an unsaved Management Zone.

Adding Data Column from Unsaved Management Zone:

Adding Data Column from a Saved Management Zone: 3. If "Adding Data Column from Unsaved Management Zone" input the data column header and values, then "Run Analysis", Click "Save Zones"
4. If " Adding Data Column from a Saved Management Zone" click the "Edit Button"
5. The Edit Zone Attributes window will pop up, click the "+ Add Data Column" [1]
6. Input a data column name in the top box and values for each zone in the boxes beneath.
7. Additional data columns can be added following steps 5 and 6.
8. To delete a column click the "column with red X" [2] icon
9. Click "Submit Changes" [3] to save and "Close/Cancel" to exit the window.
