Shapefile Batch Upload for Directed Samples

Users now have the ability to upload Directed Sample targets at the Grower or Farm level from a shapefile layer. Previously, only field level imports were available for the Directed Sampling events when working with the shapefile format. This new option will now allow the client to bring in their target point layers and have them spatially sorted to the correct field(s) all from a single zip file and upload action.

Getting Started

1.  From the Profile Tree in Main, drill down and identify a specific Grower or Farm that you have shapefile directed layers for.
2.  Once the appropriate profile has been selected, right-click on the profile name in the tree and select the “Add Data” options
3.  Ensure that the “Directed Samples” Data Type option has been selected
4.  Provide a display “Name” for the Directed Samples event(s) that will then be used within the data tree
5.  Have the “Action” option set to “Upload Shapefile” and then “Browse” for the correct associated zip file that has the shapefile Directed Sample contents within it on your computer/device.
   1. Users can also at this time elect to “Send Email”. Selection of this option will have the system perform the upload in the background, while allowing the user to move on to other actions.

Setup Display for Directed Sample Import

Next, with a file now selected, the system will perform a quick read analysis on the file to determine the contents of the zip file. Depending on the unique number of files found, the system will then display a selection/dropdown per shapefile identified.

This next step will require the user to then identify the correct DBF column name that will be matched up to the Sample ID value to be used. This ensures that even if the zip file uploaded had multiple unique and/or different DBF identifiers for the Sample ID, the web system can still easily work with each file set and correctly import the data.

With all of the DBF columns identified for each found file, proceed by selecting the “Add/Upload” action button at the bottom right portion of the screen.

The system will quickly process the file(s) and then create the Directed Sampling event under each field for which it was able to associate any of the Target Samples to based on their geo-location (lat/lon) within a current field boundary for that Grower or selected Farm profile.
