Custom Color Tool

The Custom Color Tool has two sides: "Palettes" for creating and editing palettes, and "Assign Palettes" for assigning them to data sets.


Accessing Custom Color Tool

  1. Click the menu icon in the upper right hand corner of FieldAlytics screen.
  2. From displayed menu, select option "Tools".
  3. The system opens "Tools" menu window. Use drop-down menu to select "Custom Color Tool"

Creating Color Palettes with Start and End Color Stops

  1. Select the "Palettes" tab of the Custom Color Tool
  2. To create a new palette, click the New Palette button.
  3. The "Add Palette" window will open. Input a name for the new palette being created, and click "Submit"
  4. Input the Number of Colors, and the window will update to show the palette stops on the right-hand side of the screen.
  5. Click the "Start Color" input field, and a small Hue Selection window will open. Select anywhere within the window to select the color.
  6. Click the "End Color" input Field, and select color the same way as step 4.
  7. Click Calculate.
  8. The system will update the palette stops (on the right-hand side) to reflect the color palette.
  9. At this point, the palette created may be saved for use on a data set. However, if the palette needs defined colors at certain, or all color stops, use alternate steps defined below:

Creating a Palette with Multiple Color Stops

  1. To create a new palette, click the New Palette button.
  2. The "Add Palette" window will open. Input a name for the new palette being created, and click "Submit"
  3. Input the Number of Colors, and the window will update to show the palette stops on the right-hand side of the screen.
  4. Click the "Start Color" input field, and a small Hue Selection window will open. Select anywhere within the window to select the color.
  5. Click the "End Color" input Field, and select color the same way as step 4.
  6. Click the Add Stop link for each color stop desired, and define color the same as step 4 above.
  7. Color stop position may be manipulated as well by manipulating the "Stop" drop-down menu.
  8. When finished, click "Calculate" and the system will display the palette range on the right-hand side.
  9. Click "Save" to save a palette for use on a Data sets.

Assigning Color Palettes

The "Assign Palettes" tab of the Custom Color Tool may be used to assign a previously created Color Palette to the following data set types: As-Applied Commodity, As-Planted Commodity, Fertilizer Products, Imagery, Soil Data Elemental, Yield Data Commodity, Yield Normalization, Yield Profit, Veris EC Data, Management Zones, and Field Sample.

  1. Access the Custom Color Tool (see above), then select the "Assign Palettes" tab:
  2. Select the desired Location to apply the palette to:
    Please Note: Palettes are assigned to data sets on the Location level. This means all other users under the location will observe a change in palette use.
  3. Select Data Type:
  4. Select Sub-Elements
  5. Select Palette. Note: If a previous palette is assigned upon loading, a new palette can be selected to override. 
  6. Select either Absolute or Relative for color scale interaction.
  7. If needed, select Unit, and Min, Max rates (these fields will not be needed for some data sets/ sub elements.
  8. Click "Save" when finished.
Absolute and Relative Color Scales Explained
  • Absolute: This causes the color scale association to be absolute, meaning that values that fall outside the color scale will be ignored.
  • Relative: This causes the color scale association to be relative, meaning the values in the data set will be calculated across the color scale evenly.

Adding Custom Scale Values to Absolute Color Scales
  1. Click "Assign Palettes"
  2. Select Location, Data Type, and Sub-element

  3. If there has been a custom color palette previously associated to the selections made, that palette will now display. If not (or if changing palette), continue making selections .

  4. Select Absolute radio button

  5. Select Palette to use from "Palette" drop-down menu

  6. Select a unit of measure (if needed for the data type and sub-element selected)

  7. Assign approximate Min and Max Rate values by typing them in to the corresponding input fields. 
    Note: Values Outside the min and max will be included in the nearest palette class.

    1. Click the "Calculate" Button.
    2. The system will update the Palette display to show how the values break down across the colors available. See in image on right.
    3. Click upon any color within the Palette
    4. The system will open "Custom Ranges" window. See image below. Use this window to define the custom ranges for each color. Then click "Submit".
    5. Please Note: After clicking "Submit" in step #11 do not hit "Save" again on the Tools window, otherwise the system will revert the change made in step #11.
    6. The Use Labels box will provide custom label options for each palette scale.
    7. If a saved palette is loaded in the "Assigned Palettes" tab, the red "X" removes the applied palette and reverts back to the system default for the selected data type/sub-elements
